Attuned to God's Word

GOD'S WORD INFORMS OUR WORK

We begin with the understanding that the Earth is the Lord’s, the fullness therein and everything in it belongs to him. That includes us. We are a part of his creation, all of which belongs to him. In the beginning, God spoke the world and us into creation. He continues to speak to us through Scripture. And that is where we need to begin.

God’s Word informs our work. And yet it is often overlooked and considered irrelevant for a modern economy and sophisticated investment structures. We should read Scripture each day with an eye toward what it might mean for our investment life. The first action we should take is to spend time in God’s Word and prayer before making important investment decisions.

So often, we seek the stuff before we seek God. This backwards view defines the disparity between man’s economy and God’s economy. Brian Fikkert, Michael Rhodes, and Robby Holt explain in “Practicing the King’s Economy” that man’s economy is motivated by self-interest, while God’s economy is motivated by love. They go on to say that the objective is an abundant life in the here and now and in the eternal life hereafter. Both economies are in pursuit of a content life, but only God’s providence gets you there.
