If you’re worried about COVID-19, today’s special podcast episode might be the resource you need! Todd Wagner is the lead pastor at Watermark Community Church in Dallas, Texas. If that name sounds familiar to you it’s probably because you’ve heard Henry mention it in the intro to this podcast as the location for where we will be hosting our Faith Driven Entrepreneur and Investor Conferences this fall. In addition to being our host and a speaker at the event, Todd is also a great voice in the faith-driven conversation. His words of wisdom—or as his Twitter handle calls them, words from wags—are encouraging, challenging, and uplifting to all who hear them. And with our current events, we could all use encouragement…

Today’s episode finds us all the way down under—in Australia with our guest Tim Macready. Tim is Chief Investment Officer at Christian Super. He has been responsible for the development of the Fund’s Responsible Investment Approach, which is applied across the entire portfolio and now incorporates Negative Screening and Impact Investing. Tim shared about how he set out to create the “perfect, faith-driven fund”. But then he realized…We’re all sinners. He’s a sinner, every company is led by sinners, and every company is a sinner. What do you say to an entrepreneur who might have to lay off their entire staff? What do you do when those employees need those jobs to survive?
At the heart of an entrepreneur is the curiosity and desire to find a solution where others see a problem. We at The Lion’s Den DFW are entrepreneurs just like many of you.
It’s estimated that Christians manage over 150 trillion dollars. That’s over half the world’s wealth. That’s 200-300x what is given (around the world) philanthropically each year. Capital has influence. Yet many of us are content to let others determine our investment strategy.
Wealth and influence – it’s a topic that comes up regularly in the business and nonprofit worlds, whether it is expressly mentioned or just thought about silently at networking events. It’s important in the world, whether you are a believer or not, and it’s important to God.
A mentorship-driven program, the Praxis Business Accelerator equips top ventures as they seek the redemptive edge in their industries. We accept just 12 startups, with up to two leaders per organization.
The Lion’s Den mission is to connect companies with investors through a Christian business pitch competition where business leaders can use their wealth and experience to change the world and make an impact, and this is exactly what happened at this year’s conference!
The Business Accelerator program includes the Praxis Redemptive Investing Gathering, convened in San Francisco as the conclusion to the second program gathering. Fellows share their visions for shaping culture through their ventures and build relationships with 150+ investors as a part of a two-day redemptive investing event hosted by Praxis.
This October was the fall Lion’s Den conference in Birmingham, Alabama. This year’s event was completely sold out with standing room only during the pitches It is truly incredible how God has blessed the growth.
In 2008, Chuck Welden invited me to hear about a profitable business in India. With 50 people in the room, Tom shared his experience starting the business as a way to have an ministry impact. He spoke about others who intentionally sought to operate the business, deal with people, even handle the profit as a means to serve others and the Lord.
